Hello all!
Welcome to my graduate school blog. This is going to be my new attempt to stay in touch with everyone as I head off to graduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill. Don't worry, it will not replace personal emails, but I wanted a quick way to communicate en mass.
So here is the skinny. I have been spending the summer at home packing my stuff, hanging out with family and friends, writing a science research paper on the Huntington's disease research I did using fruit flies this past year, and relaxing. It has been joyous!! My "summer" activities come to a close when I fly out to North Carolina on July 31st. My mom is coming with me to help me get settled in my new apartment - exciting stuff. I am going to be living with another girl who is also in my program. I will meet her for the first time when I get to NC.
Once I arrive, I have a bit of time to get settled before classes start. Hopefully all my stuff, that I put on a moving truck on Tuesday, will arrive in this window of time. ;-P Orientation begins August 11th. I have concluded that if the length of orientation is any indication, grad school is going to be intense. Orientation for undergrad was a weekend, grad school is a week!! Anyway after orientation we get a three-day weekend and then begin class on August 19th. I won't start lab rotations until September though, so I get some time to adjust to life in NC and classes, before beginning lab work.
As of right now, I do not know what classes I will be taking or what my degree will be in (beyond something biomedical research related). This will be determined by the lab I end up writing my thesis in, which I probably won't know until next year. I will keep you updated!
Well, all that is left now is a bit more packing and many good-byes (or rather see you laters, as I prefer) ! I will be back to Portland sometime in December. Hope to see you then, if not before!!
See you later!!
